The Intelligent Tutoring Domain Model
The Intelligent Tutoring Domain ModelAccording to the Intelligent Tutoring domain model, intelligent tutoring is the most effective strategy for academic tutoring. In this article I will briefly describe the Intelligent Tutoring domain model, the challenges to current educational education, and ways in which Intelligent Tutoring can help students with learning disabilities. The Intelligent Tutoring domain model is based on a simple premise: traditional classroom teaching has limitations which limit the effectiveness of the current educational approach. Traditional teaching puts students in a situation where they can see the teacher and the material as part of a group that also interacts through several tools such as the clicker, communication, common attention, etc. However, an intelligent approach also incorporates the use of tools in order to better integrate students into a multi-dimensional learning environment. The Intelligence of the Intelligent Tutoring strategy makes it possibl e for a student to become a participant in the discussion that occurs throughout the curriculum. In the example of the clicker, the student must be able to understand the purpose and benefits of the clicker. However, the clicker can serve to motivate the student to make the choices that are right for them. In the example of the group, each student may be interested in hearing about their participation in the activities, but the student should be able to connect to the process. The Intelligent Tutoring domain model calls for the incorporation of all information that a student may need. It is important to note that this information comes from several perspectives: the teacher, the parent, and the student. In the example of the clicker, the clicker must not only be seen as a tool for engagement with other students but must also serve to develop the student's ability to think independently and make informed decisions. In the current approach to education, there is often a push for the inc lusion of a child's reaction to the material that they are learning, as well as the teaching process itself. For example, there are many websites which try to elicit a student's interests, or even just their availability to provide some sort of response. Many students find this effective but also have concerns that if they do not respond positively to a situation, it means they do not feel good about themselves or their learning. In the Intelligent Tutoring domain model, engagement and learning are seen as interwoven with the idea of learning. The student's learning is done through self-reflection, the reflection of others, and by recognizing how their learning can have a positive impact on others. In the new model, the student may become interested in thinking of their learning as a positive impact and may even find that others take a similar attitude.Parents are often willing to consider their children have unique learning experiences, as opposed to having to learn through the trad itional methods of teaching. This can be an important factor in making a difference in the educational experience for today's children.
